Saturday 18th June 2016 at the Farnham Maltings

The iconic, red, double-decker Routemaster made a special journey to Farnham showcasing a series of professional and community dance performances as well as offering free workshops to visitors on the day. Complete with a ready-made dance-floor, DJ, MC, sound system and resident dance company, this is one bus that Demeric School of Dance did not want to miss!!!

untitledTouring since 2006, the Big Dance is a biennial festival led by the Mayor of London in partnership with People Dancing and the Big Dance hubs, a network of leading dance organisations across the UK. Presented as a “pop-up ballroom and ready-made rave”, this mobile party venue gave Farnham audiences the opportunity to discover a multitude of dance styles, from ballet to waltz via contemporary and tango, all on their doorstep and as part of an innovative experience.

The car park of Farnham Maltings was transformed into a festival arena, with the bus taking centre stage complete with its accessible dance-floor where everyone had a chance to take part during the day. The Maltings’ newest resident dance company, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures & Re:Bourne exclusively previewed some of their latest work, giving an insight into their ground-breaking style, as well as delivering workshops led by their world-class dancers.

We were so delighted to be asked to perform and a huge privilege we shall all never forget!

Other resident dance companies at the Maltings such as ‘The Dance Movement’ and ‘Stopgap Dance Company’ also showcased some of their work and teaching workshops, as well as further shows the ‘Big Dance Bus’ team. There will be plenty of opportunities for the public also to get involved, including a whole host of workshops on offer to both regular dancers and novices who just want to get grooving!

We had an absolute blast ! A fantastic afternoon had by all, a fun day of dance, lots to participate in and watch. Well done to all the dancers who took part, thank you all the teachers & helpers and all the parents that came to watch.

We have lots of lovely comments on costumes and how well rehearsed the students were …so well done and again so proud, the children were a real credit to the school!
