Dance classes are run 6 days a week from the Dance Studios in the Farnham Maltings, St Joan’s Centre, Farnham Methodist Church Hall, St Polycarp’s Catholic School, and Rowledge Village Hall.
Children’s classes are offered for children from ages of 2 years up to advanced student level. We also run Adult Tap and Adult Ballet classes.
We have something to offer every age and all abilities with a serious interest in dance as a career or just for fun and exercise.
Aurelia Whitfield AISTD dip LCD dip is the principle of The Demeric School of Dance
The school was founded in Farnham by Mrs Priscilla de Meric in 1961, who ran the happy and busy dance school up to her retirement in 2002 when Emma Wise, a former pupil of the school, and Aurelia Whitfield took over the running of the school and the majority of the teaching. In the summer of 2013, Emma sadly parted from the practice to move away with her family to Devon. Aurelia is now sole principal and continues to run the school.
In Spring 2022 Rowledge & Camesdale practices and also now part of the Demeric School as Miss Maureen Almond has sadly decided to retire. She founded the Almond School of Dance in Camelsdale (Haslemere) back in 1984 when she left the Northern Ballet Company. Joining Gaynor Morton in Rowledge in 1986, they worked together until 2005 when Gaynor sadly passed away, Rowledge then became part of Almond School of Dance. Maureen will be still be patron of those village practices.
The Demeric School of Dance is now celebrating it’s 60th year with many generation of Farnham dancers. providing children from the age of 2 through to Adults healthy bodies and minds from the benefits of dancing. As well as the physical exercise, dancing provides the awareness of posture, co-ordination, agility and flexibility as well as confidence in physical abilities and enhancing social skills.
The school runs classes in the ISTD Cecchetti method of Classical Ballet, ISTD Modern and Tap, Street Jazz, Acro, Contemporary and also classes in Adult Tap, Ballet and now new Adult Contemporary classes.
